Listed below are descriptions of, and links to, some of the key strategies, guidance documents and data that support Barnsley's local offer.
SEND strategy
This is a two year strategy to fundamentally review and reconfigure services and partnerships in Barnsley to deliver the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) reforms effectively and improve outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
SEND school places strategy
Our SEND school places strategy looks at the support and learning needs of pupils with SEND. It will help to support schools in Barnsley to make more places for pupils with SEND so that they can have an enjoyable school life within their own community.
Short breaks statement
Short breaks provide disabled children and children with complex health needs with enjoyable experiences away from their primary carers, as well as giving parents and families a necessary and valuable break.
Our short breaks statement reflects the vision of Barnsley Children, Young People and Families Trust, which is to ensure children and young people in Barnsley, who are disabled or who have complex health (including palliative) care needs, receive co-ordinated, high quality child and family centred services.
SEND code of practice
The SEND code of practice contains statutory guidance on duties, policies and procedures, relating to Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014, for organisations that work with and support children and young people who have special educational needs or disabilities.
Joint Strategic Needs Assessment
Barnsley's JSNA: Wider determinants is an assessment of the current and future health, social care and wellbeing needs of Barnsley's population.
Information from the JSNA gives our Health and Wellbeing Board a clear and shared understanding of local health needs which helps them to produce our Health and Wellbeing Strategy and other key strategies for the borough.
Health and wellbeing strategy
The health and wellbeing strategy explains how our Health and Wellbeing Board will work together with other partners to reduce health inequalities, join up services and improve the health and wellbeing of Barnsley residents. It's purpose is to help Barnsley residents to take control of their health and wellbeing and enjoy happy, healthy and longer lives, in safer and stronger communities, whoever they are and wherever they live.
Health and wellbeing data
Our health and wellbeing data provides a picture of people’s health, wellbeing and lifestyle in Barnsley. It includes information on:
- life expectancy
- the main illnesses - known as long term conditions
- lifestyle and behaviours - such as smoking
- mental health and well-being
Interim inclusion grant
An interim inclusion grant is available to settings, as short term funding, to support the inclusion of children who they’ve identified as having an additional need that prevents them from fully accessing the provision they offer.
The grant should be used to provide enhanced support to enable children to be included and able to take part in activities. Settings can, for example, use the funding to:
- employ an additional worker to support enhanced staff ratios in sessions
- purchase specialist equipment to meet the specific needs of a child
The grant is only available once for an individual child.
