We’re committed to delivering high quality adult social care services to people living in the borough.
To help us monitor the quality of our services and whether they meet the needs of residents, we produce an annual report which sets out our plans for adult social care and provides valuable information about how well we’re performing against those plans, with the resources we have available.
This is called the Local Account Report – Care and Support for Adults. Publishing this report makes us directly accountable to those of you who use our services, allowing you to determine for yourselves how well we’re doing.

Quality inspections
The government also monitors local social care services through the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This is an independent body established by government to promote improvements in health and social care and to identify bad practice.
They carry out inspections of our services to check whether hospitals, care homes, GPs, dentists and services in your home are meeting national standards. They report their inspection findings annually in a report to parliament.

Local quality checks
In addition to government inspections, we also monitor the quality of our service providers. We do this through our Quality Improvement Framework, which involves carrying out our own service inspections.
This helps us to:
- ensure continuous improvement of commissioned services
- ensure best use of public money
- introduce clarity of standards and levels of performance
- introduce a tool for use across different care areas like drugs and alcohol, domiciliary care, housing support, learning disability, mental health, older people, physical disability and sensory impairment, residential care, vulnerable people.
We use the results of these inspections to help us decide which services to commission.
