The Positive Climate Partnership’s climate education task and finish group includes people from:
- Enzygo
- Barnsley College
- ITS
- Barnsley Council
- Enterprising Barnsley
- South Yorkshire Climate Alliance
- South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority
In 2023, the task and finish group worked to create an accredited Barnsley-specific Carbon Literacy course, which is tailored to support Barnsley businesses to take the first step on their net zero journey.
The training was inspired by a project Barnsley College was rolling out to train all its staff in Carbon Literacy over a 12 to 18 month period.
The course was delivered to 37 individuals from 18 organisations across two training sessions in November and December.
Since then, we’ve expanded the offer of sustainability-related training and increased the number of sessions.
There are two courses available for businesses to attend:
- an introductory workshop on sustainable living and working
- a Carbon Literacy project accredited course
The introductory workshop gives a brief overview of the climate crisis, carbon footprints, and what we can do to create positive change. It signposts participants to further support and guidance.
Funded by ITS and Enzygo, the one-day Carbon Literacy Project accredited course delves deeper into understanding Carbon Literacy from individual and organisational perspectives. It allows time for discussion and debate, sharing ideas, and exploring good practice.
The course includes case studies of organisations that have already made progress on their net zero journey and you’ll be given details on how your business can get support to develop your own net zero strategy.
At the end of the training, participants are invited to make an individual and group pledge to solidify and action their knowledge and to apply for their Carbon Literacy certification. By becoming certified as carbon literate, you’ll join a community of 96,685 people from 7,573 organisations who’ve pledged to take action. Find out more on the Carbon Literacy Project’s website.
