Requests for new taxi ranks are most often made by taxi trade associations. They may also be made from other transport bodies, or by businesses who identify a need. If you're a taxi firm you should contact your trade association to discuss any proposal for a new taxi rank.
The police or the council's highways department may also request a new taxi rank.
Before any new stand is appointed, the police need to be notified. Details of the proposal also has to be published in a local newspaper. This will call for any objections to be submitted to us within 28 days. If no objections to the new rank are received, the Licensing Regulatory Board can then agree a plan to set up the rank.
