Giving up smoking is not only one of the best things you can do for your health and the health of those around you, but it can also help boost your wellbeing and save you money.
That’s why we’re working with NHS Yorkshire Smokefree Barnsley to make sure everyone in our communities can get the right support to make 2024 the year they go smoke-free.
They offer a wide range of free, confidential support, including their online quit tool and advice helpline, but there may be a few things you didn’t realise they offered.
Throughout 2024, they will be hosting weekly face-to-face clinics across Barnsley, where you can speak to their friendly, trained advisors and get support on your quitting journey.
From Hoyland to Grimethorpe, they’ll be popping up everywhere from your local library to our family centres. Find out where they’ll be on the Yorkshire Smokefree website.
These clinics are by appointment only, so please make sure you book ahead of time.
Through the government’s new Swap to Stop scheme, Yorkshire Smokefree Barnsley also now offer vaping products as another way to help smokers stub out the cigarettes for good.
These products are free for smokers during the first four weeks of their quit attempt as they start changing their habits. After the four-week mark, people can choose to either continue using these products at a cost or switch over to free Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
These are just some of the ways Yorkshire Smokefree Barnsley are here to help anyone thinking about quitting make 2024 the year they go smoke-free.
Their free, confidential support has a proven track record of helping people stick with their quit attempts. Find out how they can help you by visiting their website.
To help you pick the best support for you, you can also speak to their friendly, trained advisors by calling 01226 644364 and selecting option two.
Councillor Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “We’re committed to making smoking invisible in Barnsley and making sure everyone in our communities can get the right support for them on their quitting journey. While 84% of people in Barnsley currently don’t smoke, we want to encourage more smokers to come forward and find out what support is out there to help them if they’re thinking about quitting.
“It’s great to see new initiatives launching in Barnsley to help people quit smoking in ways that suit their needs, so get in touch with the team today to find out how they could help you.”
