Volunteers and council staff join forces for successful Wombwell Woods clean-up

A Barnsley beauty spot is even more lovely thanks to the hard work of an army of litter pickers.

Barnsley South Area caretaker team and environmental project officer Andrea Walker worked together with Wombwell ward councillors, solo volunteers and members of Wombwell Womblers, Worsbrough Tidy Team and Wath, West Melton and Brampton Litter Pickers to collect an impressive 270 bags of litter over three days.

The latest clean-ups follow a series of litter picks and community efforts co-ordinated by our Area Teams in March as part of the Great British Spring Clean, which saw over 480 bags of litter collected over a two-week period.

Phil Hollingsworth, service director for communities, said: “Thank you to all the volunteers and council staff who have put in such great work to ensure Wombwell Woods is looking its best as the bluebells bloom.

“Clean-up days support our ongoing efforts to keep Barnsley clean, tidy and litter-free.

“If you have been inspired to join in or organise a litter pick in your neighbourhood, you can find more information on the council website.”
