It is National Offer Day, and parents across Barnsley are finding out which secondary school their children will join in September.
This year, we have been able to offer 2,645 children (95.6 per cent) a place at one of their preferred secondary schools for September 2024.
As part of this, we’re delighted to offer 2,417 children (87.3 per cent) a place at their first choice of secondary school, helping our young people to aim high and achieve their full potential.
This year, we have also been able to offer:
- 173 children (6.3 per cent) a place at their second choice.
- 55 children (2 per cent) a place at their third choice.
We’re committed to making sure that no child or young person in Barnsley is left without a school offer. Our Admissions team have helped any child who did not get one of their preferred choices to secure a place at an alternative school ready for September.
Councillor Trevor Cave, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children’s Services, said: “We want every child and young person in Barnsley to aim high, excel in their education and achieve their full potential. I am therefore delighted to see so many children in our borough being offered a place at their first choice of secondary school for September.
“This would not be possible without all the hard work of our Admissions team and secondary schools, making sure no child is left without a school place for September.
“I would like to thank them for making this process simple for families and helping parents every step of the way in choosing which secondary school is right for their child.”
We understand that some children and families may have received disappointing news today and we’re here to help you with the next steps. Our Admissions team are happy to support any parents who may wish to appeal with the right advice and guidance about the process.
