Barnsley Council is introducing a new Warden team to provide additional safety and support for visitors to The Glass Works and the surrounding town centre. This dedicated team will work alongside the existing town centre Wardens, strengthening the council’s commitment to creating a vibrant and welcoming space for all.
The new Wardens will offer a visible and professional presence tailored to the specific needs of The Glass Works as it continues to grow as a key destination. Equipped with specialist training, they will provide reassurance to shoppers, businesses, and families, while acting as a deterrent to anti-social behaviour.
As part of the council’s ‘Joining Forces’ Safer Neighbourhood Service, the team will work closely with South Yorkshire Police, our partners and the existing Warden service to deliver a joined-up approach to tackling issues and maintaining a safe, thriving town centre.
Cllr Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said:
“Our new Warden team reflects Barnsley Council’s dedication to ensuring The Glass Works and wider town centre remains a vibrant, thriving destination that supports our town centre vision and Barnsley as the Place of Possibilities. By joining forces with South Yorkshire Police and our wider Safer Neighbourhood Service, we’re offering visitors and businesses the reassurance of a highly trained, approachable team who are here to help keep Barnsley safe and welcoming for everyone.”
This investment reinforces Barnsley Council’s vision for a connected and thriving town centre, ensuring that visitors to The Glass Works and beyond can enjoy a safe, enjoyable experience.
