Love Where You Live: Investing £3.5 million and building stronger communities together

Next week, Cabinet will discuss an exciting new investment to revitalise and empower our communities through the Love Where You Live programme.

This ambitious initiative will inject £3.5 million into local projects, enhancing our borough and making Barnsley an even better place to live, work and thrive.

A fresh vision for Love Where You Live

Originally launched in 2013, Love Where You Live has always been about bringing people together through social action and volunteering.

Now, over a decade later, we're relaunching it with renewed ambition and a further commitment to fostering community spirit, pride and engagement.

With our 2025/26 council budget, we are dedicating £1.5 million in revenue funding and £2.115 million in capital investment to drive real change in our neighbourhoods.

This investment will:

  • Keep our streets clean and green, making Barnsley a place we can all be proud of
  • Support local events, culture and community projects that bring people together.
  • Empower residents to have their say, get involved and shape their neighbourhoods.
  • Build stronger, safer and more connected communities where everyone belongs.

More than an initiative — a community movement

Barnsley is more than just a place, it’s our home. It’s where we live, work and raise our families.

If there’s one thing we know about Barnsley people, it’s that we care. We care about our streets, our neighbours and our shared future.

Love Where You Live is about all of us, working together, listening to each other and making a real difference.

We want to hear from you. Your ideas, your hopes, your vision for our borough. Because when we join together, we can create a Barnsley that works for everyone.

Councillor Caroline Makinson, Deputy Leader for Barnsley Council, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our people here in Barnsley. By investing in our local communities, we’re not just making environmental improvements, we’re strengthening the heart of our borough.

“Love Where You Live is about people, pride and partnership, creating a place to belong. Together, we’ll create neighbourhoods that are vibrant, welcoming and full of opportunity. This is about all of us - our community, our future, our home.”

So, let’s make it happen! Let’s talk, share ideas and roll up our sleeves. Because Barnsley belongs to us all and together, we can make it better than ever.

Keep an eye out for exciting events and opportunities happening in your area from Monday 2 June.
