Darfield and Goldthorpe libraries are set to be transformed into modern and flexible library spaces. To allow the refurbishment to take place, Darfield Library will close on Tuesday 24 September, followed by Goldthorpe Library on Wednesday 25 September. Both libraries are expected to re-open in the new year.
The makeover will include new furnishings and make both buildings more sustainable and energy efficient, which aligns with our Sustainable Barnsley ambition.
As with the previous refurbishments, Barnsley Libraries will be offering extra support to those who need it during the closure. If you can’t get to any other library in the area, you can join the Home Library Service for free and have books delivered to your doorstep. The nearest alternative libraries are at Thurnscoe for those living in Goldthorpe and Wombwell for residents in Darfield.
Councillor Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “Since the start of the Libraries Refurbishment Programme, we’ve made some great progress across the borough, and we’re excited that our local communities will be able to enjoy two more updated branches.
“We remain committed to creating welcoming, exciting and sustainable places where people can meet, learn, study and work.”
Darfield and Goldthorpe libraries' refurbishment is funded by a £506,836 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity fund.
