The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr John Clarke JP, is delighted to invite you and your family to join him and the mayoress at Barnsley’s annual Civic Carol service on Thursday 19 December at St Mary's Parish Church, Church Street, Barnsley.
The traditional service will start at 4pm, but we kindly ask that you arrive by 3.45pm to make sure everyone is seated and settled before the civic party arrive. The carol service will be led by Reverend Phillip Maries, Rector of the Central Barnsley Benefice, along with the Mayor’s Chaplain, Reverend Canon Keith Farrow, DL.
Barnsley’s Civic Carol Service is a long-standing tradition and provides a wonderful opportunity for families to take a break from Christmas shopping and preparations and come together in the true spirit of Christmas for traditional carols and hymns.
During the service, you will also be treated to hymns performed by the fabulous Barnsley Singers Choir and Barnsley Metropolitan Band.
The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Clarke JP, said: “The Civic Carol Service is a real tradition in Barnsley and it’s such an honour to lead the civic party in my role as the Mayor of Barnsley. It’s the perfect way to bring residents and communities together under one roof and then raise it with some traditional festive carols.
“Christmas is such a busy and hectic time of year, so the carol service is a perfect opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations and take a moment to reflect and remember the true meaning of Christmas.
“Everyone is welcome to join us for this momentous and joyous occasion and we hope to see the church full of families. On behalf of the mayoress and I, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very healthy, Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year.”
The service is open to one and all - so please spread the word amongst family and friends. For more information, call the Mayor's Office on 01226 773804.
