LGBTQ+ Adoption and Fostering Week returns from Monday 4 to Sunday 10 March, and as part of One Adoption South Yorkshire we are keen for more people to consider if they could change a life by adopting.
One Adoption South Yorkshire is joining the national campaign organised by New Family Social, to dispel any myths that gender, sexual orientation or race could prevent someone from adopting.
One Adoption South Yorkshire welcomes applications from people of any gender and sexuality and has already supported many same-sex couples and single LGBTQ+ people to adopt children and create happy, loving families. However, there are lots of children still in care, whose lives could be transformed by an LGBTQ+ adopter.
Stephanie Evans, Head of One Adoption South Yorkshire, said: “All people who adopt are unique and valued. We are proud in South Yorkshire that 1 in 5 of our adopters are from the LGBTQ+ community but we would encourage more people to come forward. We welcome people from all backgrounds, sexuality, race or religion, you can be single, married or with a partner, what matters the most to us is that you can offer a child a loving, secure and stable home.
“We welcome anyone who wants to find out more about adopting with us to come to one of our online information events.”
Cllr Trevor Cave, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children's Services, said: "During LGBTQ+ Adoption and Fostering Week, Fostering Barnsley alongside One Adoption South Yorkshire are reminding everyone that sexual orientation has no impact on whether you can foster or adopt.
“If you can help provide a loving foster home for a child contact the Fostering Barnsley team on 01226 775876, or if you can adopt and welcome a child into your family contact the One Adoption South Yorkshire team at 0345 002 0012."
One Adoption South Yorkshire regularly hosts online information events which are an opportunity for people of all sexualities to hear from friendly, professional staff to find out more about adoption.
The next online information events are being held on Tuesday 5 March, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and Thursday, 7 March, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and can be booked by visiting the One Adoption website: South Yorkshire Information Events | One Adoption.
Anyone interested in adopting can also visit the One Adoption website LGBTQ+ Adoption | One Adoption or call the advice line on 0345 002 0012.
