Elsecar Heritage Centre welcomes new changing places toilet facility

The new facility will make the attraction more accessible and inclusive for visitors.

Elsecar Heritage Centre, the well loved heritage attraction, has recently installed a Changing Places toilet facility to cater for the needs of disabled visitors.

The facility features a height-adjustable changing bench, a ceiling track hoist, a shower, a washbasin, and a toilet with grab rails. The facility is spacious enough to accommodate a wheelchair user and up to two carers.

The Changing Places toilet facility is part of a wider project to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of Elsecar Heritage Centre, run by Barnsley Museums. The project has been funded by the DLUHC Changing Places grant in conjunction with Cultural Development Fund and will see other improvements to public spaces over the course of the next year. The project aims to make Elsecar Heritage Centre a welcoming and enjoyable place for everyone, regardless of their abilities or needs.

Cllr Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson in charge of Regeneration and Culture, said: "We’re delighted to announce the opening of the Changing Places toilet facility at Elsecar Heritage Centre, which will make a huge difference to the experience of our visitors. This facility, along with the other improvements planned, will ensure that Elsecar Heritage Centre is a place that everyone can enjoy. Its such a special place to visit, packed with independent shops, cafes, beer tap, antiques centre and children’s play area, it’s a wonderful trip out for everyone."
