We are pleased to announce the introduction of digital parking and visitor permits for residents.
The scheme will start to roll out in January 2025 with all existing permits and vouchers remaining active until they are renewed.
By moving to digital permits, residents will be able to buy, renew and update permits and vouchers any time of the day and use them straight away without the need for displaying anything in their vehicle.
Upon renewal, all existing permits will be made digital and only residents in the existing residents’ parking zones will be affected.
Residents do not need to do anything until they receive their renewal email, which will be sent 28 days prior to the expiry of their permit. If there is no email associated with the current permit, a letter will be sent to their home address.
Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said:
“Digital parking and visitor permits for our existing parking zones will provide a better, simpler and more flexible offer for residents who currently use them.
“Both parking and visitor permits will be available to use immediately once renewed or purchased without the potential to lose paper copies and residents only need to act upon their existing permit expiring.
“For those who aren’t online, drop-in sessions and ongoing support will be available to assist with the move to digital permits so everyone can access the benefits that this change will bring.”
To support those who aren’t online or do not have access to the internet, drop-in sessions are being held on 12 and 19 December in the Glass Works Reception area with staff on hand to assist residents with any questions they may have. Alternatively, residents can seek help from friends, family, or neighbours.
Paper vouchers for visitors to the parking zones can be used until the resident runs out of pre-purchased vouchers.
There will be no more sales of paper vouchers from the 31 March 2025. Sales will be in line with the existing process which limits residents to the purchase of 2 books (of 25 vouchers) per month.
Once launched, permits will be managed through the MI Permits app. Residents affected by the change will be receiving a leaflet detailing the changes and the process they will need to follow.
