Date set for 2025 Barnsley 10k

The Barnsley 10k is returning on Sunday 29 June 2025 and it's going to be bigger and better than ever!

Organised by our Sport and Physical Activity team, the race returned to our events calendar in June earlier this year, helping to mark 50 years since the first Barnsley Marathon in 1974.

Scott Hinchcliffe of Barnsley AC, who clocked a time of 32:34, was the overall winner while Eleanor Baker, also representing Barnsley AC, was the fastest female, finishing in 34:58.

But it wasn't all about finishing first - the event saw more than £50,000 raised for charity thanks to so many of the 1,156 finishers fundraising for worthy causes close to their hearts.

For 2025, the number of entries has been increased to 2,400 and they'll be available from 5pm on Sunday 1 December 2024 through our event partner Racebest. No further entries will be added once they have sold out.

An information pack will be sent to participants ahead of the day. After finishing the race, which will follow the same course as in 2024, you'll also receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.

Any residents and businesses on the route who will be impacted by the race will be contacted with further information in due course.

Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: "The Barnsley 10k we held earlier this year was a massive success. We received a lot of amazing feedback after the race from runners and spectators alike, so it was an easy decision to bring it back for 2025.

"The demand for places was incredibly high, so we've significantly increased the number of participants to reflect this and I'm sure we'll see a sell-out again this time around.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for our residents to move more, live well and feel better as physical activity has proven to be a benefit to both physical and mental health.

"They can also enjoy our great selection of restaurants, cafes and hospitality in the town centre before and after the race with their friends and family, who will no doubt offer sterling support once again after thousands lined the route in June.

"So, whether you're in it for competition, fitness, fun or fundraising, mark your calendars for 5pm on Sunday 1 December when entries go live and lace up your running shoes!"
