The Great British Spring Clean is back for its ninth year with our neighbourhoods team and volunteers taking part in events across the borough as part of the initiative.
Taking place between Friday 15 March and 31 March, the initiative is part of a national clean up hosted by Keep Britain Tidy, which helps support the environment by removing any litter or waste.
During the Spring Clean, there will be a number of events across Barnsley that volunteers can sign up to attend, including litter picks and planting.
Anyone can sign up to take part in the events, whether you are a community group, school, business or an individual who wants to attend with family and friends, with the full details on the events taking place and how to become a litter picker available on our website.
Every bag of litter collected really makes a huge difference and helps us on our journey to creating a cleaner, greener more sustainable Barnsley.
In the weeks before the Spring Clean, our Neighbourhoods team have also been taking part in clean ups in our boroughs dealing with fly-tipping and litter.
Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways said:
“The Great British Spring Clean provides the perfect opportunity for residents and our staff to work together to engage with our communities and take some pride in our borough.
“I encourage anyone to sign up and take part in one of the events held over the course of the initiative to help make a positive impact on our local environment.
“We can all do our bit to help make Barnsley a cleaner and greener place to live, whether it’s taking part in a litter pick and planting trees during the Spring Clean or something we can do every day, such as recycling the right items in the right bin.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to the incredible volunteers and our staff who work hard to make Barnsley a clean, green and sustainable town that we can all be proud to call home.”
Cllr Margaret Sheard, Cabinet Support Member for Public Health and Communities, said:
“I’d like to thank our brilliant neighbourhoods team and volunteers for all of their hard work both in the run up to and throughout the Great British Spring Clean.
“The initiative offers a great opportunity for us all to get involved in events that are both good for our environment and help us take some pride in our communities.
“I look forward to seeing the results of this year’s spring clean and all of the events taking place across the borough.”
The Great British Spring Clean events will be showcased as part of our Everybody Think campaign on Facebook with information on the events taking place and getting started as a litter picker available online.
