Barnsley Council are on a mission to find out what culture means to the people of the borough.
Culture is not just about arts and heritage, it's about everything that makes us who we are and connects us to our place and community, this could be cinema, dance, literature, music and much more. They want to hear from people about what makes the town exciting and unique.
People are invited to come along to a series of free workshops across the borough where they can take part in cultural activities like creative writing and object handling. At the same time share precious thoughts and memories. If people would like to, they can bring a piece of their own ‘treasure’ that connects them to Barnsley, but it’s not essential. The treasure can be anything that is meaningful to you, such as a photograph, a souvenir, a book, a toy, a recipe, a song, or a piece of clothing.
Workshops will take place on the following dates and times:
- Goldthorpe Parish Hall – Monday, 13 May, 11.30am – 1pm
- Home Farm Crafts, Royston – Tuesday, 14 May, 11.30am – 1pm
- Penistone Grammer School – Tuesday, 14 May, 6pm – 7.30pm
- Experience Barnsley Museum – Tuesday, 28 May, 11.30am – 1pm
- Elsecar Heritage Centre – Tuesday, 28 May, 11.30am – 1pm
- 18 Baugh Green Road – Tuesday, 4 June, 6pm – 7.30pm
The workshops are free and open to everyone and are an opportunity for people to make their voice heard and share their views on culture.
