Barnsley’s general election results announced

The votes have been counted for the General Election, which took place across the UK on Thursday 4 July 2024.  

The results are as follows: 

Barnsley North 

Dan Jarvis, of the Labour Party, was elected as Member of Parliament for Barnsley North. 

  • Full eligible electorate - 78,274 
  • Total number of ballot papers received- 37,026 
  • Turnout - 47.3% 

Barnsley South 

Stephanie Louise Peacock, of the Labour Party was elected to represent Barnsley South. 

  • Full eligible electorate - 75,853 
  • Total number of ballot papers received- 35,109 
  • Turnout - 46.29%

“I would also like to thank everyone who has helped to make these elections run smoothly and safely. 

“A huge thank you to the staff in the Elections team, who have worked tirelessly over the last few months, going from the local elections almost immediately into a general election. 

“Thanks also to the staff who worked in polling stations across the borough yesterday and those who participated in the overnight count at the Metrodome. 

“After each election, we review our processes and look for areas for improvement to ensure we deliver elections in the most reliable and efficient way possible.”
