We’re delighted to announce that we have successfully secured funding from Round 3 of the government’s Libraries Improvement Fund, helping us to continue improving our library spaces.
Barnsley Libraries has received £65,470 to revamp Wombwell Children’s Library, enabling us to expand and improve the space to offer even better activities for our children and young people.
This marks the third time Barnsley Libraries has secured funding through this national scheme, demonstrating our commitment to investing in the future of our community libraries.
Previous rounds of the Libraries Improvement Fund have helped us to refurbish Dodworth Library, making it greener and more sustainable, and give our local libraries a ‘digital boost’.
Our ‘Digital Boost’ project helped us to improve digital connectivity and infrastructure across our local libraries, allowing us to be even more innovative and modern.
This funding complements all the great work happening as part of our Libraries Refurbishment Programme, helping us create inclusive, vibrant and modern library spaces everyone can enjoy.
We’ve already made major improvements at six of our library branches, with Mapplewell and Staincross Library set to become the latest to benefit from our refurbishments.
We will share more updates on our plans for a revamped Wombwell Children’s Library in the future, so please keep an eye out for more information.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) funds the Libraries Improvement Fund, which is administered by Arts Council England.
Anna Hartley, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “We’re really proud of our local libraries in Barnsley, which act as welcoming hubs that connect our communities. Over the past two years, we’ve been hard at work breathing new life into our branches, improving our library spaces so you can enjoy them for many years to come.
“It is great to see all of Barnsley Libraries’ hard work being recognised with another successful application to the Libraries Improvement Fund. I’m excited to see what’s next for Wombwell Children’s Library thanks to this funding, creating more opportunities for children and young people to fall in love with their local library.”
