Barnsley launches 1,000 solar homes project

We’re pleased to announce that Energise Barnsley will be offering their third Solar Bond deal. Energise Barnsley have been working with us for over 10 years, installing rooftop solar PV and battery storage into social housing homes. Solar panels have now been installed on 321 Council properties managed by Berneslai Homes, and 16 Council buildings in Barnsley.

Energise Barnsley are now offering their third Solar Bond and are looking for individuals and organisations to become bondholders. A target of £3,675,000 is set to be raised to support the implementation of 1,000 solar installations.

By becoming a bondholder, individuals will invest a minimum of £500 and in return, they will receive a 2-year return of 6% per year. Following the 2-year bond period, investors will have the option to roll over the investment into a further bond.

Bethan Wynton, Project Manager at Energise Barnsley: “We’re thrilled to continue on our partnership with Barnsley Council with our third Solar Bond offer and 1000 Solar Homes project.

“Any surplus money is reinvested back into the community to support local sports and leisure clubs to become more sustainable.

“We’re looking for more investors to enable us to install more solar assets across the Barnsley area which will contribute to Barnsley’s net-zero targets.”

Cllr Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture said: “It’s been great to work in partnership with Energise Barnsley over the past 10 years and help to make our borough and homes more sustainable.”

“The third Solar Bond will help us to provide sustainable energy whilst helping residents and businesses to manage their energy costs.

“Reducing our energy emissions will help us to become one step closer to achieving our boroughwide goal of becoming net zero by 2045.”
