Barber DTS at the double in the Be Well @ Work football tournament

Barber DTS secured back-to-back successes in the Be Well @ Work football tournament at Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre on Saturday 22 June, beating Cranswick Foods 1-0 in the final.

Organised by Barnsley Council’s Be Well @ Work team and Barnsley Premier Leisure, the tournament saw 16 teams representing businesses from across the borough competing in four mini-leagues during the group stage.

Matt O’Neill, Executive Director for Growth and Sustainability, said: “It’s fantastic to hear that the second Be Well @ Work football tournament was a success. Looking after our physical and mental wellbeing is vital, and having opportunities to do that while connecting with work colleagues is a great way to strengthen team dynamics.

"One of our goals with Be Well @ Work is to support employees to take part in health and wellbeing initiatives that can make a big difference. I want to share a huge congratulations to all the businesses and employees who participated.”

The four group winners, Barber DTS, Cranswick Foods, Premier Foods and Premdor, progressed to the knockout rounds. Barber DTS and Cranswick Foods advanced to play in the final, where the Birdwell-based company added another trophy to their collection after winning our last competition in January.

Jon, from Team Barber DTS Tattoo Supplies, said: “We turned up and retained our title from the tournament in January. The competition this time was on another level and after the first game or two, admittedly we weren’t sure if we’d win it again.

"But we did, through teamwork and discipline, sticking to our roles and keeping our shape. As always, it was great fun, the sun was shining this time and the team at Dorothy Hyman did a fantastic job in the organisation of the day. See you all next time!”
