A635 Goldthorpe Bypass closure

Why was the Lockwood Road subway closed?

The Lockwood Road subway was closed because a car was deliberately set on fire. This resulted in significant structural damage to mainly the subway roof. There was significant risk that the subway could collapse with the loading of the traffic on the A635 Dearne Valley Parkway. This meant that extensive structural assessments needed to be carried out to the subway. We worked with a contractor to repair the damaged roof of the subway, which are now complete.

When will the bypass be reopened?

The bypass and subway are now open.

Will the road be closed for further repair work to the subway?

The project to repair the damaged subway at Lockwood Road is now complete. The road and subway are now both open.

We foresee no further closures of the Dearne Valley Bypass in Goldthorpe in relation to this work.

We'd like to thank the staff and sub-contractors who worked on the repairs and residents for their patience and co-operation while the work took place.
