A Barnsley Council spokesperson said: “On Thursday 1 August we noticed some posts and questions circulating about work taking place on a former glass works site at Stairfoot. The information being shared on social media was incorrect.
“As a result our planning enforcement team visited the site to investigate. Our officers were satisfied that the site is being used for storage of temporary buildings previously used by supermarkets, and no enforcement action is required.
“It's crucial that everyone takes the time to verify information before sharing it on social media. This helps us avoid unnecessary upset, concern, and negative comments.”
