We provide litter bins in public places and clean streets regularly to avoid a build-up of litter. We also organise clean-up campaigns with community groups, ward alliances and area councils, and work with schools to make children aware of the problems caused by littering.
Our litter cleaning schedule
We have different schedules for cleaning litter, emptying litter bins and road sweeping, depending on where it is. We also do cleaning to remove fallen leaves in November and December.

Reporting litter
If you notice a problem with a litter bin, please tell us about it.
To report a build-up of litter somewhere that needs clearing, please report this to us below. For road spillages, discarded needles, fly-tipping or dog waste please use the relevant link instead.
After you've made a report
We'll look into the problem and clean the area if we think it's needed. We can also arrange to send enforcement officers to problem areas who can issue fixed penalty notices to people who drop litter.
Fines for littering
Our enforcement officers can issue fixed penalty notice fines of £100 to people who drop litter on purpose.
Children and young people who drop litter can take part in a supervised one-hour litter pick if they're caught littering. We can fine anyone over the age of 11 and refer them to youth court if the fine isn't paid.
Dropping litter is a criminal offence. If you pay a fixed penalty notice fine you're admitting the offence and can avoid being prosecuted. If you're fined and don't pay, you may be prosecuted through court. This can lead to a fine of up to £2500.
There isn't a formal appeal process for fixed penalty notices. If you don't agree that you committed an offence you should fill in Part 3 of the fixed penalty notice. The matter will then be decided by a court based on the evidence presented.
If you think there's anything else we need to be aware of prior to any prosecution you should inform us straight away in writing to the address shown on the rear of the fixed penalty notice.
Litter picks
Our ward alliances and area councils arrange litter picks. Take a look at their social media pages if you'd like to volunteer.
If you've done or are going to be doing a litter pick, you can ask us to remove the bags of litter you've collected by filling in our online form below. You need to tell us the date of the litter pick and where the rubbish will be left for us to collect. We aim to collect rubbish from litter picks within two working days.
If you need to request some collection bags for your litter pick, please contact your local area team; you can find the details of how to do this on our ward alliances and area councils webpage.
