Cycle lanes are dedicated lanes running alongside the road, designed to give cyclists the space to travel safely without getting in the way of other traffic. Cycle lanes are indicated clearly by road signs and markings.
There are many cycle lanes in place across the borough and we consider the need for new ones as part of our overall plan for future road improvement schemes. Where feasible we'll introduce them as part of any new road developments.
Cycle routes
We provide cycle routes to keep cyclists safe and to encourage more people to make their journey by bike. Routes can include cycle lanes on roads, as well as off-road tracks which are often shared with pedestrians.
You can see national and regional on-road and traffic free cycle routes on the National Cycle Network map.
