About visiting us
Join us at your local library to find out how children can become members. You can also find out how to get a class card, and choose books to take back to school to enjoy.
We can offer fun activities and help children become confident library users. We can also keep you up to date about our upcoming events. And of course, we won’t let you leave without enjoying a story or two!

Request a school class visit
You can request to visit with a class using our online form below.
In the form we'll ask for your first, second and third preferred dates to visit. After submitting your request we'll check the availability. We'll then contact you to confirm the date we've been able to book for your visit. This will usually be within five working days.
If none of your preferred dates are available we'll let you know some alternatives at the branch you've chosen.
First Lego League Discover and Explore
Each year, Barnsley Libraries offer a limited number of slots at Library @ The Lightbox and selected branches to host 10 free weekly sessions of Lego Discover and Lego Explore for visiting classes.
Lego Discover
Suitable for classes of children aged 4 to 6 years old and consists of 10 hour long sessions in which children complete STEM activities based on the year’s theme using Duplo bricks. The sessions culminate in a celebration event in week 10, where participants receive trophies and certificates to recognize their participation in the First Lego League.
Lego Explore
Designed for classes of children aged 6 to 9 years old and consists of 10 hour long sessions in which teams complete STEM activities based on the year’s theme using Lego, Lego Spike kits, computers, and basic coding to bring their creations to life.
