Jobs
Welcome
There's so much happening in our thriving borough, and now's the perfect time to join our Pathways to Work service as we work to make Barnsley the place of possibilities.
We're looking for a Pathways to Work System Service Manager to help us lead the way in tackling a national challenge and creating opportunities for people, businesses, and communities like ours.
Last year, we welcomed the Pathways to Work Commission to do a deep dive into our offer, exploring how we can help more people to access work. They recognised our successes and what works well.
They've also challenged us. We've been through an incredible journey, and we're moving forward by implementing their recommendations. Here is where the role of the Pathways to Work System Service Manager is key.
For our residents, good work means better mental health, more social interactions, improved health prospects, and financial benefits. For the borough, more people in work means a stronger economy.
The report's findings have focused our ambitions, highlighting key areas that will make a real difference for our communities, businesses, and services. Find out more about progress on the Pathways to Work Commission website.
About us
We're a double award-winning, high-performing council with a growing economy, a thriving town centre and some truly impressive outcomes in our communities.
This is why we've been awarded Council of the Year for 2023 by the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) and The Municipal Journal (MJ).
Our vision is Barnsley - the place of possibilities. This vision drives our council plan, demonstrating our commitment to making it happen.
Barnsley is open for business, with our central location, digital connectivity, and excellent links to major road networks. We have strong ties across South Yorkshire and wider Yorkshire regions.
We're committed to developing skills, talent and creativity among people of all ages. We'll do this by creating exciting prospects and meeting the demands of the future economy.
At the heart of all of this are the proud people of Barnsley. Everyone has an important role in working together to make our ambitions for the borough possible.

About the role
We're looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic new Pathways to Work Service Systems Manager, to provide strategic leadership and operational management across the service and service system. They'll take a lead role for the council, working with partners in the development and implementation of services, systems and strategies, and ensuring high quality delivery, compliance and governance.
To make a difference, we need a strategic thinker and planner who can mobilise work with our partners, employers, and government to test out new ways of offering support to anyone who wants to work in Barnsley to find a job that works for them.
We hope to conduct interviews on Friday 23 May 2025.

Barnsley’s vision and ambition for 2030
The vision for Barnsley Council is Barnsley - the place of possibilities. This builds on our past which has influenced the fabric of the borough and experiences of many Barnsley residents. It also builds on the borough's success over recent years.
By 2030 we want everyone to benefit from, and contribute to, making our borough a thriving place of possibilities.
Everyone has an important role in working together to make our ambitions for the borough possible. This in turn will improve the lives of residents. This includes our residents and groups across the private, public, voluntary and community sectors all working together.
Barnsley's already a great place, and we want to do more. This vision drives our Council Plan, demonstrating our commitment to making it happen. We'll concentrate on providing services where they're most needed and will have the most impact. We'll also help people to do more for each other and their community.
We're committed to developing skills, talent and creativity among people of all ages. We're also creating exciting prospects and meeting the demands of the future economy. This all makes Barnsley a better place to be.
At the heart of all of this is the proud people of Barnsley. It's about celebrating and championing what makes our borough special. We want to inspire others and work together to make an even better Barnsley.
