Welcome

In Barnsley, we're committed to being a place of possibilities. We must keep growing. That's why we welcomed the independently chaired Pathways to Work Commission to do a deep dive in our borough exploring how we can help more people to access work.

They've recognised our successes and what works well. They’ve also stretched and challenged us. We’ve been through an incredible process, and we look forward to moving forward from here by implementing the recommendations of their final report. Here is where the role of the Pathways to Work Projects and Contracts Manager is key!

The findings of the report have focused our ambitions, highlighting key areas that will make a difference for our people, families, communities, businesses and services that work with Barnsley residents every day.  Find out more about progress to date on our Pathways to Work Commission webpage.

To make a difference, we need a strategic thinker and planner who can mobilise work with our partners, employers, and government to test out new ways of offering support to anyone who wants to work in Barnsley to find a job that works for them.

For our residents, good work means better mental health, more social interactions, better health prospects and financial benefits. For the borough, more people in work means boosting our economy and increasing the productivity of our businesses.

This is something that will truly make Barnsley the place of possibilities. Your role will help us to lead the way in tackling a national challenge by turning it into a real opportunity for people, for business, and for places like ours.

We were recently crowned LGC Council of the Year 2023 and was awarded an LGC award for employment support.

Barnsley’s vision and ambition for 2030

The vision for Barnsley Council is Barnsley - the place of possibilities. This builds on our past which has influenced the fabric of the borough and experiences of many Barnsley residents. It also builds on the borough’s success over recent years.

By 2030 we want everyone to benefit from, and contribute to, making our borough a thriving place of possibilities.

Everyone has an important role in working together to make our ambitions for the borough possible. This in turn will improve the lives of residents. This includes our residents and groups across the private, public, voluntary and community sectors all working together.

Barnsley’s already a great place, and we want to do more. This vision drives our Council Plan, demonstrating our commitment to making it happen. We’ll concentrate on providing services where they’re most needed and will have the most impact. We’ll also help people to do more for each other and their community.

We’re committed to developing skills, talent and creativity among people of all ages. We're also creating exciting prospects and meeting the demands of the future economy. This all makes Barnsley a better place to be.

At the heart of all of this is the proud people of Barnsley. It’s about celebrating and championing what makes our borough special. We want to inspire others and work together to make an even better Barnsley.
