You need to register for Council Tax if:
- You've moved to Barnsley from another area or from abroad, and have bought or are renting a property.
- You've bought or rented your first property in Barnsley and you weren’t responsible for Council Tax at your previous address. For example, if you're a first time buyer or renter and previously lived with your parents.
How to register
You can register for Council Tax by filling in our online form. In the form you'll need to tell us:
- The address and postcode of the property you're moving from.
- The address and postcode of the property you're moving to.
- The date you'll move out of your current property.
- The sale completion date and solicitor details (if you're buying).
- The tenancy start date and landlord or letting agent details (if you're renting).
- Your bank details if you want to pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit.
