Safeguarding
One of the Safeguarding Adults Board core statutory duties is to conduct any safeguarding adults review in accordance with Section 44 of the Care Act.
Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SARs) provide a chance to learn lessons and improve practice. This occurs when abuse or neglect is suspected to be a factor in the death or serious harm of an adult with care and support needs.
The Barnsley Safeguarding Adults Board must arrange a review of any case involving an adult, in it's area, with care and support needs. This is regardless of whether or not those needs are met by the local authority if:
- the adult has died and the board knows or suspects that the death resulted from abuse or neglect. This applies even if it was unaware of the neglect or abuse before the adult died.
- the board is concerned that partner agencies could have worked together more effectively to protect the person.
The board can also consider a review of a case if the adult's still alive. This happens if it knows or suspects that the adult's experienced serious abuse or neglect.
You can read more about SARs in our safeguarding adult review protocol.
