Community and volunteering

Age-friendly Barnsley

Age-friendly is a World Health Organisation concept. In Barnsley we’ve joined the UK network of age-friendly communities as we want everyone in our borough to enjoy healthy and active ageing.

We’re working with the Centre For Ageing Better and our local statutory and voluntary partners to make all our communities age-friendly. We want people to live in their own homes, doing the activities they love, for as long as safely possible.

Our Age-friendly Employer Pledge

We've signed the Age-friendly Employer Pledge, a nationwide programme for employers who recognise the importance and value of older workers and are committed to improving work for people in their 50s and 60s (and beyond).

Take a Seat Barnsley

Take a Seat Barnsley shows how we can work together to provide suitable resting places to encourage people to get out and about, socialise and explore our wonderful borough.

The location, design and size of the seats varies. Some are outdoors, some urban, some rural, whilst others are in shops or indoor areas.

You can see where the seats are located in and around Barnsley using our interactive map.
